Brief History / La Tercia
In the XVIII century, the families Gea and Truyols alongside the Riquelme and Peraleja Haciendas, retired here from the bustle and summer heat of Murcia City . They would enjoy the local wines and olive groves, not to mention the sea breeze that cools this area and the neighboring Sierra de Columbares, which was an exceptional hunting ground during this time but is now one of the biggest and best bird reserves in Spain .
In 1735 the Gea family, who reached noble status in 1776, began the construction of the old Hacienda "La Tercia". When the descendants of Don Alonso Antonio de Gea died, ownership was transferred to the Church, who granted it to the Order of the "Predicadores" (Preachers)

During the eventful Spanish XIX century, a most revolutionary decision was taken by the first liberal government of the young Queen Isabel I, to expropriate from the Catholic Church, all of the land and houses that had been accumulated all over Spain during the centuries. This was done in 1855, under the name of "Desamortización". It was at this time when a new period of splendor converted this Hacienda into the leisure estate of rich Bourgeoisie and Nobles alike.
Today, the Hacienda "La Tercia" and its listed buildings are testimony to the historical heritage of La Tercia. However, the 18th century foundations are in very bad condition but the ornaments of the façade have been disassembled and a team of experts from the "Patrimonio Nacional" (National Trust) will decide whether the house will remain where it is or if the most significant elements will be dismantled and rebuilt with stronger foundations.
The surrounding historical haciendas of "Peraleja", "Riquelme" and "Baños" (now called Mosa Trajectum), have been redeveloped as prestigious golf resorts. Another 5 golf courses are already at the planning permission stage or under construction.
This region is the new "Costa del Golf" and it is a much sought-after location for people who want to live in quality surroundings with cool summer temperatures.
